Kelompok Ilmiah Remaja

Overview

Kelompok Ilmiah Remaja (KIR) is an organization under Organisasi Siswa Intra Sekolah (OSIS) set up in 2nd October 1999 as an independent extracurricular activity. Titis Nur Abadi, a student who initiate the organization, also became the first General Leader for the KIR 1999 - 2000 work period. 

KIR orients its activities on science understanding and practicing among the students, which are more practical. 

Mission and Objectives

KIR's mission is to spark, bring, and develop deeper science understanding and practicing in students' everyday life as a positive activity, orients on students' independent thinking, creativity, and self-determination.

KIR's objectives are :

  1. Make science friendly to learn, not difficult;
  2. Be a deeper resource for the students on the topics they learn;
  3. Giving students the principle "learning by doing";
  4. Spreading positive knowledge of science and technology; and
  5. Giving students independence in learning.

Members and Activities

The KIR member is taken from the students. To apply for KIR membership, the following steps must be taken (membership is free) : -

  1. Requests "Parents Agreement Form" to be filled. In this form the applicant's parents sign for agreement;
  2. Requests "Study Focus Form"  to be filled when the first form is settled. The applicant is going to choose his study focus (what subject) he/she wanted to learn further.
  3. Giving back the forms to KIR and they're finish!

KIR activities range from theoretical, experimental, and observational activity. The theoretical activity is attended by the students on particular day which he/she will given some explanations on the subject by a related teacher. While the experimental, the students will try to experiment with research tools and facilities as to use them for research on a subject. The observational activities are all outdoor. KIR will bring them on an edu-recreational place around Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to observe something related on their subject/topic.

Facilities Used

For the purpose of KIR activities, we use the following in-school facilities :

  • Science Laboratory
  • Language Laboratory (English)
  • OSIS Room
  • Arts & Culture Room

Organization Structure

Problems

The main problems faced by KIR are :

  1. funding. We do not have adequate funding to hold our expenses.
  2. facilities. The school facilities still can't handle our demand.
