The History

The story of the establishment of Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIK) or Indonesian School of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia started when the International Affair Office of Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur reopened. At the time, the embassy's employees thought of the necessity of sending their children to school. The initiative then got a positive response from the Attaché of Education and Culture, that time was Drs. Bambang Sumadio.

Although with only limited facilities and employees : which only two employees at the time, SIK opened with strong eager to struggle against any obstacle. As SIK operated poorly, just few times later the school has been closed, regarding the inefficiency and ineffective time of operation, and also caused by extremely low fund.

After the replacement of Drs. Bambang Sumadio to Muhammad Alwi Oemry, SIK then reopened. This reopening was fully supported by Mayjen H.A. Thalib Gelar Depati Santio Bawo, the ambassador of Indonesia. Beside of being Attaché of Education and Culture, Oemry then has been inaugurated to hold the responsibilities as a first headmaster of SIK.

The officially recorded date of the establishment of SIK is 10th July 1969, which [the day] was filled by a ceremony officiated by various guests of honor. Among them are the Indonesian ambassador and his wife, and Ministry of Education of Malaysia, Yang Mulia Dato Haji Abdul Rachman Yakob.

SIK strictly uses Indonesian National Curriculum, and all the teachers are Indonesian. Every student here follows the national education system.

Appearance

The school consists of 4 main areas. They're the classroom building, office/administration, mushalla and basketball court, and the last is the big, wide tennis court.

We also have a good collection of SIK's appearance photographs.

SIK is located strategically near the city center. Students have the convenience of transportations to go to the school. There are various kinds of transportations. Commuter Trains, Light Rail Transit (LRT) Trains, Buses, and Taxis.

To reach the city center, if you could, walk on your foot in about 15 minutes and you're already in the city center.
